Thank A Soldier!

So, Xerox is doing a really great thing. You can go to the website: Thank a Soldier  and choose from a ton of different designs of cards. You can add one of their pre-written notes, or write your own. Xerox will Print and Mail your card to a soldier, Free! No, you don't get to pick the soldier, but let's face it, they are all working hard for us!

Wouldn't it be great if there was suddenly a few hundred (or thousand) cards coming in from Perryville MO? While I have no way to track this, I challenge all of you to bookmark this site, and send at least one card per day. Show your kids the site and how to use it and challenge them to a greeting card duel to see who can send the most cards!

Even if you can only do this once, it's worth it, and it only takes 2 minutes! So please, Thank a Soldier today!

An extra thank you also goes out to Angie Brewer, our auction committee chair person. Angie and the rest of the auction committee worked countless hours to make the auction as successful as it was!

8th Grade Confirmation Retreat

This past weekend was the 8th Grade Confirmation Retreat. All 19 students were able to attend!

We went to the Peaceful Valley Camp in St. Mary's MO, about 10 miles NW of Perryville. We arrived on Friday night at around 5:30. We (the adults)  started our campfire and unloaded groceries while the students claimed their bunks and started 'moving in'. We were all in one building, boys upstairs, girls downstairs.

The first night we mostly just sat around the campfire, talked, etc. Most of the kids ended up falling asleep somewhere in the wee hours of the morning!

Saturday morning Pastor Marks led a morning devotion, after which we began our Faith Olympics. The students first played two games of chain tag to help build them as a team. It definitely got the kids up and moving after their semi-sleepless night! Chain Tag and a couple get-to-know-you games took up most of the morning, so we saved the rest of the Olympics for after lunch.

After lunch we played Eagle's Egg. We divided into two teams and played a game that can last anywhere from 5 minutes to....? Our game ended up taking over 2 hours! There were some great saves and lots of strategy planning. Definitely a game worth remembering! After Eagle's Egg, the students were divided up into teams of 4 and we had a volleyball tournament.

Points were tallied throughout the day and the winners will be announced shortly!

Saturday evening after dinner we had another campfire, devotions, and s'mores.  The students declared the prank war on each other which made for a shaving cream silly string filled night. The days events took their toll sooner on Saturday night and many students were asking to have the lights turned off by 1:00 am.

Sunday morning we had a worship service at 7:30ish. After breakfast the students cleaned their dorms and got their belongings packed up. Parents started to arrive at 10:00 am to shuttle students back to the church parking lot for their parents to pick them up.

It was a great weekend with no serious mishaps! Praise the Lord!!! The PHS and ILS seemed to really bond and get to know each other much better, and that's a big reason that we have this retreat for every class!!!

Kristi

Donations Still Wanted!!!

Dear Friends:

We are excited to begin planning for our annual youth dinner auction to be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the K of C Hall in Perryville.

The primary purpose for this auction is to raise funds for our church’s youth activities to include a national gathering that we are planning for our youth to attend in New Orleans in 2010.   Your support of this auction makes attendance at these events possible.  A percentage of the profit from this auction event also helps to support other church and school funding needs.  We are always open for suggestions regarding service projects in the community which will impact the lives of others as we share our good fortune and the love of our Lord.

The success of our auction depends upon contributions from businesses, individuals, and groups who are willing to donate merchandise, coupons, tickets, services or cash to help us with our efforts.  In the past, this auction has raised approximately $12,000 for our youth and other projects. Having our donations determined early will allow us time to do the additional advertising for the event and displaying of the items to the public.   We are hoping that this increases our success at the auction this year.  We have set a goal of raising $15,000 for the 2008 event.

In addition to a donation,  you have the opportunity to advertise in our auction book.  We are selling ads to promote your business at the following prices:
    1/4 page:  $25        1/2 page:   $50        Full Page:   $75
For all ads, please provide a business card or ad print that you want us to use.

For any donations that are greater than $300, after providing proof of value, you will receive 2 FREE dinner auction tickets.  For donations greater than $500, after providing proof of value, you will receive 4 FREE dinner auction tickets.  This is a great NEW feature that we hope many businesses’ take advantage of.

All donations are tax deductible and receipts will be sent to you following the auction.  Thank you in advance for your generous support of these efforts.  We appreciate your help in allowing us to further build the Christian foundation for our youth.

                            Sincerely,
                            Immanuel Youth Board Auction Committee

Youth News

We have lots going on in our youth group right now!

Our Youth Dinner Auction is just over a month away! We've got many many great items up for auction! You can view them by clicking on the link in the left-hand column. Donations are still welcome. You may contact a member of the Youth Board, or Angie Brewer to donate. Tickets may also be purchased from any Youth Member, Youth Board Member or Auction Committee.

Our 8th Grade Confirmation Retreat will be this coming weekend. We have a really fun and spiritual weekend planned and can't wait for this fun event!

In the recent changes in our Pastoral Leadership, we have changed our Youth Nights to Youth Mornings... All Youth 7-12th Grade will now be meeting between the 7:30am and 10:00am church services IN THE YOUTH HOUSE. These will be your way to earn your Spiritual Points as before.

We don't want to lose our Youth Nights!!! Youth Nights will now be for fellowship purposes. We will be needing parents of youth members, or other church members, to volunteer to supervise our Youth Nights. Volunteers would not be responsible for any Bible Study Leadership, only to supervise the evening of fun. Any volunteers may contact Kristi at 517-1492. Please leave a message as I'm not always available to answer my phone!

We would like to have all Youth turn in the points that they have kept track of when they've accolyted, ushered, led a youth bible study etc. We plan on giving out point status reports at the beginning of 2009 so all Youth may see where their points stand. Youth... Don't forget to sign in when you are at Youth Mornings and Youth Nights!
